Spirituality and Wellness

A Raw Truth

The world is becoming more and more chaotic.  The chaos continues to build, day by day like an unforgettable, haunting piece of music that is reaching a crescendo.  The chaos that is happening externally is also occurring internally in all of us, because we are being asked to wake up to our most authentic self.  We are being asked to acknowledge the extreme amount of pain that is being inflicted upon Mother Earth.  Violence is at an all time high, we are having interactions with more and more people that are more than emotionally unstable, and religious organizations and political governments make it their goal on a daily basis to keep us in bondage on many levels we cannot begin to imagine.

Presently, this is a time of celebration and great power for us.  What appears to be impending doom and gloom is really our "Higher Selves" or rather, our True Selves, attempting to assist us in dealing with past and present traumas, hurts, and emotional baggage so we can be free of this endless cycle of self-inflicted suffering.  It is our decision to begin the journey of being at peace with ourselves and others, loving self and others unconditionally, and believing that the power of positive and permanent change always resides within.  The universe is filled with an abundant amount of love and resources to help us reach the level of spiritual balance we desire.  It is never too late, we will never run out of time, there is nobody to compete with, and all we have to do is ask our True Self/The One Most High (the Creator, Mother and Father God, the Omnipotent, the Universal Source, God, Jah, etc.) for help, with love.

Tools For Survival

There are several things that will greatly assist us in staying grounded spiritually/mentally in the midst of the chaos and they work best in conjunction with one another:

  • Diet
  • Meditation
  • Prayer
  • Nature
  • Movement
  • Laughter
  • Love of self and others (we are all one)

Diet

The foods we ingest can add or take away from our life force and the power that already exists within us.  It is best to eat foods as close to their natural state as possible-whole foods.  Organic, whole foods are the best quality foods one can eat.  Whole foods bought at the local farmer's market are ideal to buy, although pesticides are used often times (some farmer's markets sell organic produce), as they retain most of their vital nutrients.  Locally grown produce retains more of its nutrients because it does not have to be driven thousands of miles to be sold and eaten.  Hence, it passes through less hands, it contains less chemicals than conventional, store bought foods, it is more fresh in general, and it is cheap.

Eating raw vegetables, especially the green leafy variety such as kale, collards, and spinach, will help rebuild the life force, decrease cravings for sugar and processed foods, and may even have the potential to heal many ailments and dis-eases.  Most of us are in a chronic state of dehydration and simply increasing our intake of clean water daily, would do wonders.  Food can sustain our life force, keep us in bondage, or act as a domino effect in our healing process to pave the way for healthy, positive transformations.

To further release all of the excess emotional and food debris, it is beneficial to do some form of detox several times a year.  Taking a break from eating food allows for deeper introspection, creativity, deeper spiritual awakening, and cellular renewal.

Meditation

The wonderful thing about meditation is that we can choose whatever form of meditation we are drawn to.  Forms of meditation include sitting, standing, and walking meditation; being in nature, yoga, swimming, journaling, listening to uplifting music, internal martial arts such as Tai Qi and Qi Gong, sun bathing, ecstatic dancing, singing, painting/or some other type of artistic expression, or playing an instrument, among other things.  Meditation is crucial at this time as it will keep us in a state of spiritual balance, assist us in being able to deal with the present energetic changes happening, and that will be happening at a greater intensity in the near future, assist us in being  well equipped to deal with daily stressors and other people's psychic vibrations, assist us in being at peace with ourselves, and help us to be further open to receive assistance from our True Self, our guides, guardian angels and ancestors.

Nature

Have you ever been out in nature and felt vibrant, energetic, and happy when you were done?  Spending time in nature cleanses us mentally and spiritually.  It is not necessary to spend a huge amount of time in nature to reap its benefits, unless you would like to do so.  Nature is healing.  The trees, plants, rocks, ocean, river, sand, animals, etc., are here to nurture, love, and help us.  They have a message for us, if we take the time to listen.

Movement

Regular movement of the body, beyond daily walking that most of us do, keeps the body young, youthful looking, limber, and pliant.  It is beneficial to do exercise that allows the heart rate to rise and it is also even more beneficial to do movement you are drawn to do.  A few types of movement include yoga, dance, aerobics, running, muscle conditioning, stretching, martial arts, biking, roller blading, and rebounding.  Movement can give us a feeling of euphoria due to the release of endorphins and can combat depression and low self esteem.

Laughter

Laughter is healing and making light of ourselves is most important.  Laughing helps us have a healthier immune system, hence prolonging our lives; releases endorphins, relieves stress, is a magnet to allow others to laugh, breaks up the monotony, raises our spirits, allows us to feel and be more free, and is traditionally known to heal ailments and dis-eases.

Loving Self and Others

One of the best ways to begin loving ourselves fully is to help another.  As we help others we begin to see commonalities, therefore we become more compassionate and understanding towards them and ourselves.  The root of all healing is knowing, innately that we are all connected to one another, no matter if someone is an addict, a crooked politician, a dog that cries for its owner all during the night then barks at you as you walk by every day, or an enemy.  We all are a part of this universe and no one is any better or lesser than the other.

Loving ourselves also means taking time to be alone, which will further facilitate healing and acknowledging the shadow aspect of self.  Realizing that perfection does not exist and meeting those silly little quirks and perfect imperfections head on, only to keep moving and growing in life is as well important.

With the arising of rebellious forces...the body has assumed the attitude:  "I will break over this time, and the  next time I won't.  I will eat this because it pleases me at the present.  I will take this, for I don't want to suffer right now, and next time I won't."  This has been done until self loses such holds on self as to become in a manner the slave to self's own indulgences, in mental, physical and material things!

These conditions then, require that there be made by self a definite stand to be taken; that is:  "If there is given me a definite program to follow I will-I will-I will adhere to it, no matter what I may suffer mentally or physically!  I will trust in the divine forces innate...within my inner self for the strength to endure, for the ability to say no when I should!"

-Edgar Cayce Reading 911-7
